I was looking for a new feature...
I was wondering if a new tab could be created allowing the user to snap a picture at a given interval and save/email/ftp the image.
I was hoping to have the option to capture an image of the sky conditions in order to allow our club members to know if the observatory is under clear skys.
Of course all capture operations would trump this operation.
I was wondering if this is possible if not I do like your Comp/s-video Idea but my adaptor is not capable

OK What settings would I want to upload(ftp) a single image full size and a thumb of the current view every 15 min
I dont know what settings I should use. I seem to get an video to capture every 15 min and it loads the image. I dont want the video to be saved on the PC, just upload the images.

Oh, it is impossible to capture only still images by current UFO2.
There may be simultaneous triggering case. Therefore it is not so easy. |

This would certainly be an interesting feature for me as well.
This time-lapse feature could have several settings, e.g.
- single frame dump at user-selectable interval (jpeg or bmp/png)
- long exposure stacking mode (mostly for night): user selects stack duration, stack method (peak, average, or sum (latter needs to be done over images converted to linear gamma curve)). User can also select interval for start time of each image greater than exposure time.
The image series should be written to a separate user-selectable folder (e.g. another hard disk) and have ftp option. Any sprites or lightning or meteors occurring in such stacks would be included, you could set a peakhold over a duration of seconds to minutes. This without the need to store big movie files.
If an event is triggered during a frame-stacking process it should cause no problem, so the frame stacking probably must be done in another part of the memory (it is just new_stack=old_stack+new_image, actually nothing too demanding), not using the event detection stream.

Hi Oscar
There may be many delicate problems to implement this.
UFOCapture is real time video recording program therefore there is time critical sessions.
If I add other functions that run independently from motion detection, it may increase the risk of under run.
If all PCs are same or fast enough, it may be easy, but they are not.
As for averaging or stacking, the dynamic range of 8bit brightness format is the biggest problem.
If 16bit depth image is more popular, it may be easy, but it will require some auto ranging mechanism or something else to get visible 8bit images for various weather conditions. It will require enough experiments.
Anyway, I agree with the importance of complete weather records and the lesser storage is better.
I will keep this theme in my brain. Thank you for commenting. |
