Hello everybody!

I'm beginner as meteor detector.
I'm making a station of meteor detection and I would like to know if the configuration of Watec 902 b/w 1/2" and Fish-Eye Fujinon YV2.2x1.4A-SA2 is a good configuration or not?

Thanks and kind regards.

My current recommendation for meteor observation is Watec 902H2 Ultimate and FUJINON YV2.7x2.9LR4D-SA2.
About camera, there are some types in Watec 902. 902H2 Ultimate has best sensitivity and operatability.
About lens, F number is very important. FUJINON YV2.7x2.9LR4D-SA2 has F=0.95.
(this lens is originally for 1/3" CCD, but it can be used with 1/2"CCD within the range of f=5 to 8mm)
It is almost only one lens that have wide view and less than 1.0 F number now.
Also, we have experienced that fish eye all sky lens can capture only bright fireballs.
Because the image of meteor becomes very small if you use too wide lens.
We are thinking that 30 to 60 degree FOV is best for meteors.

Cheers.

Well, it depends on the purpose.
ASTROVID FireballCam has nice housing and may have enough ability
to capture big fireballs within very wide FOV.
But the equipments that I mentioned above may capture probably ten times of meteors
compared with the F1.4 fish eye.
Also the measurement accuracy increases if you use narrower lens.
Therefore, many Japanese night sky observer operate many cameras simultaneously
at one station to observe wide area of the sky.
It is the trade off.

So, the best configuration is YV2.7x2.9LRD-SA2 and watec 902H2 ultimate 1/2" and for me the box of FireballCam. In this way, I sent an e-mail to astrovid to know if they can sell the box empty.

Now, it's clear for me about the best configuration.

Thanks.

Best regards.

Stephane.
