Hi All,
I am looking for some remote software management tools to help me manage my remote meteor detection station. At the moment I do have UFO Capture sending me an email every 2 hours as well as when a meteor is detected.
However, I have had some instances where UFO Capture was not running for whatever reason. A few times the PC turned off or did not boot to Windows.
So ideally some software that could:
1) Determine the status of the PC
2) Determine the status of UFO Capture
3) Preferably update a web page with status, email or both
Any suggestions are welcome!

How about using a VPN router?
Some VPN router has a function of remote power on.
Also you may be able to chkeck the PC power status on it.
It uses ethernet signal to power on, and most of PCs can recognize it by bios setting.
Once the PC becomes ON, then you can use Windows remote desktop or else.
For just the confirmation of running, UFOCaptureV2 FTP setting can be used.
May be you know already....

Hi SonotaCo,
Yes I was aware of the FTP functionality which is great, I may use it later. I am already using LogMeIn.com for remote access and DropBox.com for file transfer. I also have a IP Remote power switch (IP 9528) that I can signal over the internet to turn on or off.
At the moment the remote IP device is turning on at a scheduled time and then UFO Capture starts detecting 20min after sunrise until 20min before sunset. Then the PC can be turned off by UFO Capture. However, there is wastage of power as the IP power switch is not aware of the sunrise and sunset times.
What I need to do is set the schedule if the IP power switch to the sunrise/sunset times every day. This is possible via a remote call to the IP power device and I am capable of writing the software to do this.
Where do you get the sunrise/sunset times? Are you downloading them daily from a web service or using some other method?
I have created a System Architecture and Timing diagrams for my system at http://meteorhunter.blogspot.com/p/equipment-setup.html - you can see that most devices are sitting idle wasting power for a few hours a day at least which is no good for my power bill

Hi Daniel
I am now on travel of MOD#03, so let me answer briefly.
UFOCaptureV2 and NightSchedular is computing sun rise and sun set time
from the longitude and latitude and timezone locally set by the user..
I learned a few days before, there is a sun relative timer device in EU.
It is a fuse or breaker type industrial goods. I will write the detail
about it after I go back to Japan.
Today, air plains in EU becomes almost normally, so may be I can back
to Japan tomorrow.

Hi SonotaCo,
OK, I will look at calculating it myself then. The sun relative timer might be of interest, send a link once you have flown around the ash clouds

This is sun-relative timer, that contains CPU.
I don't know the detail of this. Please let me know if you find further info.
