Just for your info,
i did extensive system monitoring for 3 days during capturing (wiht Process Monitor) and surely Norton background activities (that are not stoppable in a simple way) are responsible for a good deal. Forcing the antivirus to stop background jobs is already reducing the problem to a certain extent.
Probably the HD speed at 5400rpm is linked to this anyway.
My PC is running a 64bits, but I installed UFOCapture under C:\Program(x86), probably I discover later that could run also aunder 64b architecture.
Could it be related to this ?
Can I move UFOCapture installation from 32bits to 64 without causing trouble ?
Thanks a lot in advance
Maurizio

UFOCapture itself runs normally on 64bit windows. There are many users on 64 bit W7,W8.
Bur be careful about capture devices. They often has incompatibility.

Hello,
I recently encountered the problem of UFO capture not recording the AVI files where the above recommendations like turning off Virus scans and
Quote: | Have you checked below?

The default of W7/8 is 10 or 15minnutes to power off. It should be " Never". |
did not work. Some avi files were recorded correctly, some were missing. As I suspected the harddisk to be the culprit I searched a bit in the internet and found the following tool HDPARM to prevent the HDD to spin down
http://disablehddapm.blogspot.ch/
using hdparm with the parameters -B 255 hda prevents the harddisk from going into the idle mode (hda refers to Drive C:\). This helped, the avi files are now recorded.
hdparm -i hda and hdparm -I hda give info about the harddisk:
Model=HGST HTS545050A7E680, FwRev=GG2OAF10...
Config={ HardSect NotMFM HdSw>15uSec Fixed DTR>10Mbs }
....
AdvancedPM=yes: disabled (255) WriteCache=enabled
...
The harddisk is a HGST Travelmate TSZK500, specified as low power, apparently at the cost of performance. Time will tell if operation always at full speed will reduce lifetime. The additional power consumption (approx. 1 W) is negligible.
I put the command into the night scheduler, since with power off the harddisk returns to its power save mode. Another possibility is to put the command in the autostart folder.
Hope this helps some users of UFO capture which have the same problem.
Martin

Thanks a lot for this useful info. I had the same problem from time to time. I'll try HDPARM during the next night sessions.
Best wishes
Roger
