Dear SonotaCo,

I wish to suggest some changes to UFO Capture and Analyser:

1) UFO Capture

Max(sec) is usually set to 0 (infinite clip length), but some of our team have tested setting it to 10s or 30s, to avoid saving long vide clips.

If Max(sec) is >0 Capture saves the bmp and jpg files, but not the avi and xml files, they are lost, so there is incomplete data for Analyser.

Can UFO Capture be changed to save all the files when Max(sec) is >0?

2) UFO Analyser

Events in a video clip are given the same timestamp as the start time of the clip (allowing for the header value), but this is a problem if the video was triggered by a non-meteor flash (electrical noise, cosmic ray hit, 'plane, etc).

For example, a video clip has a (header-corrected) start time of 030812 and a meteor appeared at 030816. Analyser gives the meteor a timestamp of 030812 and when it is processed in UFO Orbit it is not used in the multi-station analysis because other stations correctly recorded it at 030816 and the 030812 meteor is outside the 3s 'search window' in Orbit.

Timing corrections can be applied, but during major meteor showers we capture large numbers of events and it is a lot of work to 'rescue' this type of event.

Can Analyser be changed to record the actual timestamps of events in a clip, and not the (header-corrected) start times?

Best regards,

Alex www.nemetode.org

Hi Alex
Thank you for suggestions.

??? Save all files ??? Isn't it same with Max(sec) == 0 ?
If you want to delete all files to avoid the incomplete data, then check off the "Leave image of Long Clip" option in Operation sheet.

Yes, I also think it is better.
But it seems the automated modification may be very difficult, because there are so many variation of multi events on one clip.

Hi SonotaCo,

Thank you for your replies.

1) UFO Capture

When Max(sec) = 0, UFO Capture saves the full set of files, e.g avi, bmp, jpg, xml, and it always does this for any length of video clip.

However, if Max(sec) > n it only saves the full set of files if the clip is less than n seconds. If an event lasts more than n seconds only the bmp and jpg files are saved. It deletes (does not save?) the avi and xml files, which we would like to review. We do not want them deleted automatically (not saved / incomplete).

My colleagues would like to use Max(sec) with values of 30s so that it saves all relevant files for these long clips. Some might contain meteors, but if they are 'planes they can delete them.

They have many problems with 'planes, which produce very long video clips. They use the Slow Object Mask which helps, but they do not want to lose videos of slow-moving meteors with their Pixel/s setting.

2) UFO Analyser

We will continue to manually check the times of meteors that appear several seconds after the video trigger time.

Best regards,

Alex. www.nemetode.org
