Hi All,

Here is a shot from my All Sky Meteor Video Camera, which went fully operational last night, mounted to the top of my house. Wat902H2 & Fisheye lens.

I caught a couple of the expected Quadrantid Meteors last night as well.

But this is not one of them, this was a bright Sporadic Meteors coming out of the south at about 06:48 am.

This Sporadic Meteor covered almost 90 degrees of sky too!

The Movie was cool to watch, but unfortunately it is a 52 megabyte movie, to big to post here.

North is up in this Photo (notice the Big Dipper), Bootes, and there are a few passing clouds (lower right) covering Leo and The Planet Saturn.

Does anyone know why there are Gaps in the meteor's Trail?

Is my video capture card/setup dropping frames?

Best Regards,

Hi John
Nice one Shocked
We are observing more than 100000 meteors in a year, but meteors that have such long trajectory may be less than 10.

There are many possibilities. I need to see the movie.

We are going to change the server of sonotaco.jp within a week.
New server will have 10GB of space. There I will open a new space for temporal big file exchange.
Please wait for it.

Wow!

Thanks, the statistics of this rare catch is good to know! Very Happy

I look forward to the new server for big movie files, so that everyone else can see the video.

I'm glad I spent the time to build this camera setup, and purchased UFOcapture, this is very exciting, as you never know what your going to catch.

Thanks again,
John

Sorry, the big exchange area was not realized.
Today, I moved SonotaCo.JP to a new big server, but I could not solve the many problems to allow the large file transfer by php.

Please use compressing tools, such as Windows Movie Maker, to make a small movie files (ex. wmv), if you want to post a movie.

Anyway, if you capture something interesting, please let us watch.
Enjoy,

What is the maximum File size allowed for posting a .wmv movie on this forum?
How do I go about posting it? Is it the same procedure as posting an image?
Thanks,
John

Here is the highly compressed Video of the Long Trajectory Meteor captured in my all sky Camera.......I used windows movie maker to compress it to about 1 meg size, not the best quality, but easily shows the meteor.

Hi John

Thank you for showing us.
It seems that frames #56 to #64 were leaped. That is why there was a gap in peakhold image.
Frame leap happens when the processing or HDD writing could not catch up the frame rate.
Firstly, you should check the CPU load during the detection by Task Manager of windows.
If the CPU usage is over 80% (40% ,if your CPU is dual core or hyper threading),
then it means the CPU is not enough.
Otherwise, it means that HDD could not catch up the data flow.

General recommendations are as follows.
1. Open Replay sheet of UFOCapture while detecting.
By stopping the drawing process of preview window, CPU load decreases 5% to 20%.
2. stop other program or auto running tasks that might bother HDD
anti-virus, windows update, network connection, indexing of windows, screen saver....
3. Do check disk and deflag of HDD.
4. Check the power management setting of windows (control panel).
Power saving or idling stop setting may cause troubles.
5. Overheat of HDD or whole PC sometimes cause this kind of problem.
6. Setting of disk writing cash sometime change the situation, but it depends on the case.
