Hello to all !
I am a total beginner as meteor hunter.
But in French we say : Il faut un debut a tout (it means : It must have a beginning for all things).
I am testing the software with an old video cam and it perfectly works (not in night of course). I got a lot of video birds
I search for a night camera capable to record traces of meteors but in color.
This model 550 res COLOR SONY CCD Camera .05 LUXS 3.5-8MM VD EXVIEWS
seem to be able to shoot stars in night. Will be him enough effective for meteors ?
It seem that found variofocal optics with F:0.8 for the Watec 902H2 Ultimate 1/2 " CCD is now very difficult.
A French sellers say that the CCD 1/3" (WAT-902H3) with TG2Z1816FCS computer would be a better choice because now it is hard to find 1/2" CCD optics. What is right about that ? Thanks for your patience.

Hi Phil , welcome to this forum.
As for color, I think there is no good camera that is comparable with monochrome camera.
I have Watec231s (0.1lux -- I think it is one of the most sensitive color camera in the world).
But it detects almost 1/100 meteors compared with monochrome camera.
And even it detects a meteor, we cannot see color of it. They are recorded mostly only white.
Look the recent capture below. It was recorded by WAT221S.

I have tried EM-CCD color video cams, but they are very noisy and does not suit for motion detection.
Therefore, I strongly recommend monochrome cameras such as WAT 902H2 Ulimate for meteor observation.
About lens, I recommend to use FUJINON YV2.7x2.9LR4D-SA2, vari-focus 2.6-8mm F0.95.
Though it is for 1/3inch CCD, it can be used with 1/2inch CCD within the range of 5-8mm.
I think it is the best lens for night sky available now.
Taken samples are shown in below.

Hi M.Sonocato
Thanks for your answer !
I talked about a color camera because in my youth I saw a nice bolide meteor. It was big with astounding colors (green + orange), running a little bit slowly (not so quickly as a shooting star) in the dark night.
Then it explodes suddenly like a firework ! It was absolutely marvelous to see !
Greetings
