I have a problem with certain movies, in particular for the long lengths captures (1-3 minutes)

For example : when the trigger begin to record the passage of a slow satellite the final file is big enough. This is normal.

But when I try to read the final movie, the picture freezes suddenly but the cursor of the visionnage software (whatever it is : VLC or media player or other) continue to advance.

It often arrive (but sometimes not).

In the beginning I thought that it occurred because I used the Xvid codec directly to compress the original movie in UFOcapture.

But even after having chosen the AVI option without codecs and without compression I continue to be bored by this strange problem.

The size of the file seems each time correspond to the length of the event.

I don't understand what is wrong. I use Windows XP Sp2.

Here is a file with this problem as an example :

Does someone know this problem ?

Hi Odin57

From the avi, it seems the file writing under run happened.
It occurs when the processor or file writing to HDD cannot catch up the input stream.

Check the CPU load by task manager first.
If the CPU load is over 80% (over 40% for dual core, over 20% for quad core CPU)
while recording, it is dangerous.
If the CPU load reaches its limit(100%, 50%, 25% for 1,2,4 core) even a moment,
everything include the creation of broken avi file may happen.
If your CPU has enough performance, then the file writing speed may be the bottle neck.
Use fast inner HDD. It should not contain system files (such as paging file).
Optional HDDs such as USB2.0 connection, often cause troubles.
Sometime other task such as anti virus scan or network communication occupy the HDD long time.
Stop other tasks while detecting. Also HDD deflag is sometime effective.

By the way, are you obserbing satellites?
Cheers,

Hi again

I will test again but without the automatic trigger (DETECT button).

I will just make many movies in my office through UFOcapture sometimes while using the REC button sometimes the DETECT button.

Yesterday I have made one movie while using the REC button and all worked fine.

I will make several tests this afternoon...

Thanks

Phil
