Dear All,
Users of UFOCapture, do you used a cloud detector to control the number of detections versus weather conditions?. If Yes, What kind of cloud detector do you used?
Thanks and kind regards
Happy new year

Hi Stephane, happy new year
I have not heard of cloud detector, may be no one use it.
What is the purpose of the detector?
Most of us uses water proof camera housing. So, we are observing even in rain.
It is the best way to good sleep

Hi SonotaCo,
Happy new year.
The cloud detector gives the % of cloud present in the sky. I think that it's an importante detector for a meteor station detection because if the meteor is above cloud, it can not be detected and the number of meteors counted during a night is wrong.
It seems that some cloud detectors are based on Peltier effect (e.i.: http://www.noao.edu/staff/gillespie/projects/cloud-detector.html) and the other with camera and specific software (e.i.: http://www.astrosurf.com/rondi/mascot/cahier.htm in french). Pehaps, for the last example, it can be included in the UFOCapture software
Best regards.

Hi Stephane
Thank you for info. I understood. Oh, it is a tool for ZHR.
It is interesting, but I think there are many other conditions that affects the count of meteors, such as transparency, moon lights, ground lights....
Therefore we don't care about clouds now.
I am thinking a new activity measure such as sporadic ratio should be established especially for video observation.
It will be important to know the distribution and the bias of sporadic meteors now.
Regards,
