Very nice gravity waves in your elve! We must of course be sure there is no cloud field.
I have a good number of GW-elves but usually the contrast is much lower and the patterns more long-wave. A few images of last year have uploaded to my website, more of 2009 to come.
The last one has an additional weird phenomenon, I explained it in the description under the image. I have several split-frame elves.
I read Japanese nowadays with the Google toolbar!
It looks like gravity waves in elves were already predicted in 1996 in this paper:
Rowland, H. L., R. F. Fernsler, and P. A. Bernhardt (1996), Breakdown of the neutral atmosphere in the D region due to lightning driven electromagnetic pulses, J. Geophys. Res., 101(A4), 7935?7945. http://www.agu.org/journals/ja/v101/iA04/95JA03519/

Hi Oscar
Thank you for introducing an thesis about gravity waves in elves.
I downloaded the thesis. But it is difficult for me. I would like to read slowly and carefully.
