Hi,
With new intel processors, what is the minimum processors and frequency from i3, i5 and i7 processor we must used for UFOCapture with firewire interface?
Thanks

Hi Stephane,
I don't have experience with firewire CPU requirements, but my Intel i5-2540M at 2.6 GHz runs UFOCapture with few percent CPU use (depending on which speed the processor is running).
More important is that your Firewire device is supported with drivers, in case you go for a 64-bit operating system (which seems default now). In my case, I have a high-speed camera (not for UFOCapturing) which uses Firewire and even though I could find a 64-bit updated driver, the software could not work with it. Beware that firewire is also not supported by any virtualization software.

Hi Oscar,
Thanks for your repply.
I use a ADVC55 to convert. I don't anderstand why it will be not compatible with 64bits version, Windows normaly manages the IEEE 1394A driver?. My camera is a WATEC902H2 Ultimate which is connected to ADVC55. At this time, I have the choice between 32bits/64bits windows 7 family Edition Premium.
In fact, I'm going to replace my 10 years old PC by a new.
This new PC will be use only for meteor detection. Pehaps I added a second camera with a second ADVC55.
I hesitate between an I3 3.3GHz and an I5 2300 2.8GHz.

Hi
Im operating two ADVC-55s(720x480NTSC) on one CoreDuo 2.0GHz, and is working well for many years.
So Core i5 2.8GHz may be enough for all SD resolution including 720x576(maximum of PAL).
Future UFOCapture product for HD(1920x1080/60i) will require 4 core(or ht) >= 2.8GHz.
http://sonotaco.jp/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2391
So I recommend I5 2.8GHz, not I3 3.3GHz
I have tested ADVC-55 on both Windows7 32bit and 64bit. Both worked well.
But there are some other capture equipments that does not support 64bit still.
So I am still recommending 32bit version if it is possible.
Be careful about bandwidth if you run two UFOcaptures on one PC.
You should use two physical HDD drives and two independent IEEE-1394a interfaces.
One HDD or chain connection to one IEEE-1394a will cause troubles. |

Hi
First of all, happy new year 2012!
Thanks for your reply.
About 1384B interface, you said that 2 interfaces must be used: it's 2 connectors on 1394B controler card or 2 1394B controlers card with 1 connector.
Thanks and best regards.

I meant bus bandwidth of IEEE1394A interface chip is limited to one video stream.
So we need two independent interface chip to handle two video stream simultaneously. I am using one on the motherboard, and the other on the PCI bus card. |

Hi,
Thanks for your feedback.
I bought a new PC with I5 3.0GHz (price less than 2.8GHz!), installed 2 hard drives and 2 separate 1384 interfaces (with 2 Canopus ADVC55) and it's work fine. Cpu charge is low.
Thanks and best regards.

After several week, I have some detections where the .avi file is not recorded or recorded of 0.2s. All others files of these detections are available.
Have you an idea about this issue? |

I have a lot of issues with 2 UFOCapture runs at the same time: I have several captures with only picture file but without video!
This morning, one of the UFOCapture indicate an error: cannot to connect to DVDrecord.
What particular points are necessary to runs 2 UFOCaptures at the same time? (I have twos 1394 boards with two Canopus and 3 hdds. each camera has a dedicated harddrive. The 3rd hardrive has the windows 7).

This happens when HDD was not ready at the time for UFOCapture.
It can be caused by many reason.
The most probable cause is automated HDD power off setting of Windows.
This is default on Windows7. Be sure to set automated HDD power off OFF.
Or, stop other all tasks that use target HDD drive, such as indexing, unti-virus check, aumated system back up/recovery ......

This happen when the device was used already by other process.
May be assign of the video input device is conficted.
If two IEEE devices are installed to one PC, then there may be same device name, but UFOCapture adds uniq number for each, so check them [n] |
