Hello folks

Glad to have found this excellent software and forum.

I'm keen to get up and running with a camera. I'm currently looking at some GigE Imaging Source options for sensor and lens. GigE would suit my setup at home.

Do you have any recommendations? I've been looking at DMK33GX290e (Starvis IMX290) because I read about it on here.

Not sure about a lens though - I've been looking at the TCL 0616 5MP lens on the Imaging Source website which is 6mm /F1.6
https://www.theimagingsource.com/products/optics/lenses/tis-5-mp/

I'm getting quoted about $900 for that pairing. Can I do better?

Would be interested in hearing about GigE experiences.

Thanks!

David

Yes DMK33GX290e seems still best GIgE for nightsky. I am using two DMK33GX290e s for three years.
As for lens, I'm using Chinese low cost M12 mount lens with M12 to CS mount converter and M12 lock nut (fileded thin a bit)
Falkan super starlight 5MP lens f=2.8 F=1.0

This is incredibly low cost Wink
May be its 5MP 4mm F1.0 or 6mmF1.0 will work fine also.

Thanks SonotaCo - very interesting.

I'm glad you pointed out that lens to me! It's substatially cheaper than the other I was looking at.

May I ask what housing you are using for your cameras? Are you using some security cam casing perhaps to keep them reasonably protected from weather?

Also, do you use DMK 33GX290e rather than DMK 33GX290 for a specific reason? It seems 'e' model gives some onboard image pre-processing capability but I'm not sure whether that's useful for meteor cam applications?

Thanks!

Here are photos of my housing (lenses are not current ones).

I don't know whether the Sun light shutter is necessary or not.

I don't know about the difference between 33 and 33e.
There was only DMK33GX290e when I bought it.
I'm not using special software that uses the "image buffer"
33e has heatsink, it really heats up.
