Thank you for precise information.

It seems it is just a format name problem .....
Could you test a trial version below?

This trial version of UFOCaptureHD2 ignores the fomat negotiation error.
It uses Y800 if negotiation fails.

It seems GS3 uses mono 8 bits format, so it can be OK.
(there are so many 8 bit format names, Y800, Y8, RGB8, mono....., and UFOCaptue recognizes only Y800).

As for trial, serial code and license key is not needed. just push "ReInstall ax" in 5.
(There is no trial period but it just will stop continuous detection at 30 minutus without registration)
Xi =1280, Yi = 960 must be assigned, but any fps will be OK.

Many thanks, there is progress.
Edit: wait, I selected RAW8. Will do same with Mono8.
Edit2: with Mono8 I get a red image with some blue (inverse it seems).

please test new UFOCaptueHD2 V3.55 on PointGrey GS3 monochrome model.

I believe PointGrey is using RGB8 which is newly supported by UFOCaptureHD2.

Hi SonotaCo,
Thanks for the new version. I get the same UM012 error with Y800 in the DxErrLog. Did it still try to negotiate Y800 while it could be RGB8?

Thanks - now I see an image without the colors but with pixelated artifacts.
I get a similar image with camera in Raw8 mode. It seems sometimes darker. It could be an effect like we saw with the colors changing each capture (probably not an exposure effect)

It seems the format is somehow different. I will send this image also to PointGrey, I am in contact with their support personnel. It seems it should be possible to make this work somehow!

Oh, it's an art....

I need to know the GUID of the MEDIASUBTYPE which is used by PointGrey device driver.
Such as
e436eb7a-524f-11ce-9f53-0020af0ba770 MEDIASUBTYPE_RGB8

I guess PointGrey uses some other GUID. Please let me know if you can know it.

I have forwarded your question to PointGrey.
Inside the inf file for the USB3 driver for Windows7 I find only this GUID:
ClassGuid={361A40FB-DC46-4ED9-BFF4-068E83D5C8AF}
but I think you are looking for one of these:

Point Grey is investigating it deeper, a suggestion from their support person:
Could you try to modify the software in such a way that it expects RGB32 formats from this camera and does the necessary processing later?

@ceres how did you get the information about Y800 from Point Grey?

It may be possible to support RGB32.
It is amaging that RGB32 is actually used. Especially for monochrome camera.
But surely it is likely .

May be I can write a program for RGB32. But here is no camera that uses RGB32.
So it will need several trial remote debugings.

Also, I need to decide how to handle the brightness on RGB32.
It is easy to use G channel as its brightness for motion detection, but may be it is not good for RED sprites with true color camera.... may be I should re-compute Y from RGB, even for monochrome camera Do you have any opinion?

There is no information. Y800 was the only one supported format for 8bit monochrome .

unfortunately I am now away from home, visiting two conferences after each other. I did not bring the camera. But Point Grey support can test your last version.

As for sensitivity:
1) it should be decent enough for sprites at slow frame rates, because my other PointGrey camera (color, 3.75 micron pixels) can record them. This camera has larger pixels (5.86 micron) and no color filter array which should give about 1.5 stop better results.
Hot pixel numbers increase significantly if you try 1-3 sec exposures.

2) at high frame rates like 1/50th sec exposures, images are quite dark at highest gain, 24 dB. The camera could use more hardware gain. With gamma at 3-4 I can see some stars and full moon background light (maybe similar to Tokyo sky glow). This amount of gain and gamma does not even look so noisy at 100% view, so you could apply digital gain to the captured images and see more. But I think you cannot expect magnitude 4-6 stars to be visible. I will test when I get back home.
