Hi SonotaCo:

Very often I have meteor that left behind segments - ie not continuous streaks. My question is for the velocity determination which segment do you take average velocity, the Nth/2 segment?

Also if I choose to record a AVI clip - is the still and stacked P bitmap created?

Is there a way to convert to WMV without actual FTP set up? This will be useful if I want to post the wmv as well...

Thanks

I thought that you were using chopper when I saw your clip.
But it seems that you did not use such things....
I think that it may caused by electrical shutter in your video camera.
When using flickerless mode or faster shutter speed these may happen.

UFOAnalyzer takes average of whole path for short meteors, or take average of beginning part of long meteors. but this is for continuous ones. please solve the chopped problem first.

Yes.

I use Windows Movie Maker for this purpose.

Thanks for this pointer.....

I will try some experiments soon. I noticed your ' bird tra l' posted is continuous. Some cameras when the shutter speed is set off it default to 1/ 50 or 1/60 sec, others had 'higher' lowest setting... eg 1/100. On watec 902H there is a shutter on/off switch to try on.

So on a wat 100N you set the hand-control speed setting to 'off' position for meteor ? ( I have a similar camera too) . The reason why I did not use 100N is the sensitvity is not as good as wat 902H.

Yes.

Both camera uses same CCD, so basic sensitivity is the same.
The difference is electrical gain of video signal amplifier.
902H has gain up to 50db, I think it is too high and it makes S/N worse.
I have WAT-902HS2 also, but I rarely use it.
Good S/N is important for dim meteor detection.
Besides S/N, 902H does not have gamma setting, and cannot be used with CBC F0.8 lenses from a mechanical reason.
For night sky observation,up to now, I think there is no camera which is better than WAT-100N.

Hi SonotaCo:

a) I still cannot see the P bitmap file list appear when I hit the rec button to start recording and then and hit the stop rec . I can only see the stack still on the screen and unlike those 'detection' files listed on the left. I need to do this so that i have a good reference starting bitmap with known star constellation and not wait for the first meteor to detect to figure out the star fields. May be i am missing something....

b) Wat 100N - just curious - what is the gama did you use? AGC on or manual
too bad my sky had turned bad.

c) Every time I get into V2 latest version I need to reregister so much so I have a sticker on my monitor to guide me to key in the licence information. I am ok with this but just wanted you to be aware of this.

d) Using V2 /full frame rate. Caught some interesting tiny small fireballs - path length less than a degree and mag (guessing) -2 or brighter...

Hope Clear Sky Rtn sooner!

Woom... I cannot guess what is happening.
Which do you mean P bitmap was made but not appear or P bitmap was not made?
Rec button simulates detection, I think there is no difference on bmp creation.

I use gamma off (=1.0) and AGC on with middle gain position.

Settings.ufi remembers the user id. So please copy old Settings.ufi to new directory, or overwrite old directory by new contents(Zip file does not contain Settings.ufi. It is made at evey end of program).

I guess it might be a satellite or air plane flash. Especially Irdium satellite which is in the state of "tumbling failed" cause very bright flash. There are some images below.

Hi SonotaCo:

It is a tiny meteor in Oph near theta.. I play it back to verify and attached please the screen capture. The direction of motion is from left to right. The negative single frame show a tiny tail on the left at 9 o'clock direction.
Iridium flare can't occur at that hour 00:37 am local time - there are no sun light to illuminate on the satellites - they are deep in earth's shadow. I have seen over hundreds of different iridium flares myself. An airplane will not just left a blob in the middle of the frame ...

I measured it again. It was ~ 1.13 degree. ... I have on the other day a slightly larger but slower meteor as well.

Hi ykchia

Thank you for publishing "fire fly meteor".
Yes, it was clearly a short , fast, bright meteor, very interesting.
There are few observers who uses long focal lenses, so there may be many new surprises.
I am looking forward to see next.

I think I should prepare the world wide ground map for UFOOrbit in near future.

My mistake before - I hit the <rec> button and instead of hitting the <recoff> button again to generate the pbitmat I hit< off> instead - aborting the process.

Thanks for the info on wat-100N setting.

The world map with UFO user site is a GREAT idea.

Clear sky to u!
