Dear all,
I have reported previously on my Python script for the analysis of meteor spectra. In the meantime I have refined it and published it on Github:
https://github.com/meteorspectroscopy.
I also published the script for the determination of the parameters of the orthographic projection at the same place. For an short description, see:
https://meteorspectroscopy.org/2020/08/26/meteor-spectroscopy-python-scripts-on-github/
I f you are interested, give it a try. Comments are welcome.
Here the result of a late perseid:
Martin

Hi Koji,
Sorry I missed you at the virtual IMC!
I have been getting some very interesting results recently, in fact just a few minutes ago I captured another high resolution spectrum!
This is one I caught last night with a watec 910 and 830 grooves/mm grating.
Nicely dispersed with both 1st and 2nd order captured. The coloured synthetic spectrum is taken from the second order.
cheers,
Bill

Hi Bill,
This IMC was online so I was able to participate.
It was a little disappointing that there were few presentations about the spectrum at this IMC.
However, I enjoyed the whole presentation with a lot of variety. It was difficult to hear.
This spectrum has a great resolution.
When a meteor explodes, you can get a great spectrum
Thank you,
Koji

Hello everyone,
The end part of the fireball belongs to S Taurids shower crossed the spectrum camera yesterday.
I was also able to take spectrum of the split pieces. It seems that the bright lines are saturated. It is hard to analyze.
According to the UFO analyzer, the mag. of the original fireball is -4 mag.
It will be Geminids soon. I'm looking forward to it.
cheers,

Hi Koji,
I have viewed the video many times, it is an extraordinary spectrum. Many, many iron lines!
Wonderful!
The weather forecast for me is very poor for the peak of the Geminids but I always hope the forecast will be wrong!
Cheers,
Bill.

Hi,
The weather gave me a break in the clouds and I was able to catch a nice spectrum this morning.
My friends in the NEMETODE network have confirmed it was an Ursid. This is first time I've seen an Ursid spectrum!
The image is the unprocessed image. It looks typically rocky in nature.
I'll post the processed spectrum shortly.
Best regards
Bill.
PS Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous new year to everyone!

Hi,
Today I am not talking about the spectrum of fireballs.
In December, the number of iron meteoroids is increasing. In December and January every year, the ratio of iron meteoroids is less than 10% of the total spectrum.
All iron meteoroids have very similar spectral shapes and are characterized by darkness.
Koji
Happy New Year.
May the Quadrantids clear up at everyone.

Hi,
A happy new year to all the readers and users of the forum.
Yes, that is really interesting. I noticed I'd captured a few Fe meteors also! Have you noticed this increase before?
On the 1st January a very bright fireball was seen over northern England.
IMO/AMS Event 10-2021
It was very low and distant from my location in SW Scotland so it must have been VERY bright as it generated a 3rd order spectrum on one of my HD cameras. VisualSpec measured the dispersion at 0.13nm/pix. This is the highest I have ever captured!
For the first time I could cleanly split the Na doublet.
The composition looks quite unusual with there being no Mg seen. The lines present are from Fe, Na and Cr.
I've attached a colourised synthetic version.
cheers,
Bill.

Hi Bill,
Thank you for the replay.
It has been known for about five years that the ratio of iron meteoroids increase
in winter. see the attached figure. This figure will be updated soon.
The spectrum of the 10-2021 fireball is very good resolution!
And it is rare type of spectrum, I think too. According to my statistics in 2016, it was only about 2% of the total meteors from which the spectrum was obtained.
Best regards,
Koji
